Here's my final task!
I've been making dance covers for about five years, lately not so actively, though. Now that time has passed since I was still active, the algorithms have changed quite a lot which means the views on my (and my sister's ) Youtube channel have changed so that views a day on the whole channel haven't really dropped but only the most popular videos are watched and the new ones.. not really at all. Before it used to be about 100 views a day per video, but nowadays some videos are not watched at all and the most popular one 1000 times a day. Which doesn't really encourage to make new videos.
Also the dance style of Japanese dance covers, 踊ってみた=odottemita=I tried to dance, has lost a lot of its fans I think. So I decided to try something a little different: changing the song to a Korean one.
The song "Nekkoya (Pick Me)" is from a Japanese TV reality show Produce 48 where artists from Japan and Korea competed about who gets to a newly formed group. I chose this song because it's Korean but as most of the channel's viewers are Japanese, I thought it would be good to have this Japan aspect to the song as well. And I also really like it.

This is from the first episodes of the show.
So here's my cover! I'm annoyed by many things about it but I had to publish it now anyway as it was my final task. I had to shoot it with my worse lens to fit in the shooting area and now that I watch myself, it turned out way too overjoyed... But that's what it is. I think the shooting place and the overall feeling of the video and the edit fits the song pretty well though. I tried to get the same feeling in the video as in the upper video and I think I succeeded in that.
So the analytics I was interested in! The conclusion... Changing to k-pop didn't help pretty much at all.
The views didn't really get any higher, at the moment the video only has about 1500 views. If the same video had been uploaded two years ago I'd say it would be getting at the moment about 100-200 views a day and would now, after about a month, have approximately 2000 to 4000 views. And because the song is Korean, it could be even more. But not with the new algorithms. Also, the song is already about half a year old so there's no way the algorithms would be on my side. So what I see happening is the active subscribers (about 1000) checking out the video and after that the views.. Just end. Now it's watched about 10-20 times a day so basically not at all.
38% of the views are from Japan, 27% from Finland, 18% from South Korea and 11% from The US. So I actually got some Korean viewers! So little though that it doesn't really change anything but anyway.
What's really weird about the analytics is that it says 100% of the viewers are women? I feel like it must be a glitch as I know some Japanese viewers must have been male. I would've been interested in this one as well but it seems impossible...
So that was my final task! It was a pretty nice project, I just wish the results would've been more interesting. What I got from the results is that nowadays if you want to be popular (which has never been the main point of my videos) on Youtube, you need to a. make something that's trending or b. make something new and special. Nowadays repeating the same tricks on Youtube won't make you especially popular I guess. At least not when it comes to odottemita.
This was super interesting to read! As someone who has no idea how these algorithms work, I can now understand why most content creators feel super unmotivated to create new things, since not even their stablished following gets properly notified about it. It's overall a complicated situation.
VastaaPoistaAlso, loved your dance video :D
It's pretty interesting how big the difference is to the old videos. Now I might understand YT culture a bit better and people's frustrations. Nice research!
