Music video analysis: CY8ER - ドキドキパリラルラ

To be honest I don't know much about music genres so I picked an easy one for me: CY8ER's ドキドキパリラルラ (Dokidoki parirarura (dokidoki means like heart beating when you like someone or so and parirarura... nothing really)).

It's basically Electronic J-pop with dance music elements, just like most of CY8ER's songs.
Actually combining j-pop, dance music and overly cute idols is the main point of the group, usually j-pop doesn't have that dance music aspect.

The music video, I think, is very generic CY8ER, the colors and all. It looks like a generic J-pop MV with the studio and costumes but then the colors and edits fit the electronic theme with the silly animations and glitch effects and all. The first part of the MV doesn't give anything really surprising just like the song, but when we get to the bridge part things get funnier: it's the dance music part which is supposed to be the party part and the video gets just as weird and nonsense as possible.

I think the video quality seems a bit homemade as it's probably not made with a big budget, but I think the MV delivers its message quite well: you jump to CY8ER's silly colorful world where you can just dance and look at your cute idols singing with cute voices. There's no bigger meaning in the video on purpose, nothing deeper is necessary in their world. The guns I'd say are a bad joke (but probably not for most of the viewers as guns are not a problem really in Japan, the law is so strict that it's ridiculously difficult to even have one without consequences) otherwise the video is just about fun and happy things as it should. The colors actually remind of being in a live house so it reminds of their lives (which is really big part of CY8ER's income, in idol culture the point is that you can see your idols often), probably on purpose.

In ドキドキパリラルラ like any other J-pop song it's highly important that the singers are cute females, if the singers were men I guess the audience would be 100% different, it would be a whole different thing. An idol needs to be cute and someone you want to support and whose energy gives you energy. And the song can't be sung by anyone, it needs to be exactly these five people the audience came to cheer on.

(Live video, the song starts from 5:10:36)

So yeah CY8ER's lives are like a kids' afternoon club for adults.
